A9124 – Restored Victorian Cedar Seven-Drawer Chest, c. 1890
Freshly restored and ready for its next home, this beautiful Victorian cedar chest has been carefully overhauled in our workshop. New drawer runners and a traditional hand-applied French polish bring out the warmth and character of the original cedar.

Restoration and condition:
The external cedar surfaces retain attractive age-related character and patina. Cracks caused by natural timber shrinkage have been carefully repaired with high-strength compound and reinforced from behind using cedar panels, adhesive and screws before being filled and French-polished.
All seven drawers have been re-glued and re-nailed where required, with their bases removed and refitted to restore rigidity, close gaps and eliminate rattles. Additional timber crossmembers installed to the underside of the large drawers for added strength. Each drawer sits straight and flush and operates smoothly. New runners to all drawers except the two small secret drawers (not required). Key provided to assist with sliding out both secret drawers.
The original drawer rails have also been re-glued and re-screwed where necessary, with hardwood overlays added to selected rails. New Mahogany drawer guides (sourced from an 1800s chest) installed to most drawers (remaining drawers not required as original intact with minimal wear). The result is a beautifully restored and structurally sound Victorian chest with reliable everyday functionality.
